This causes an approximate 1 second delay between sending a request and receiving the data. This is seen when browsing by seeing a brief pause before the page loads. The speed that the data is 'pushed' to the user (and therefore the speed that the page loads after this initial delay) is equivalent to broadband though so it is still far better than dialup. The real advantage is that it can be provided anywhere in the UK and is generally not as expensive as a leased line.
Leased Line
This is generally the most expensive of the broadband alternatives however performance is far better than satellite broadband or ADSL and comes with a guaranteed quality of service. Generally used where performance and a guaranteed service is far more important than cost. Very high speed is possible but costs can often be in excess of 10k so normally only feasible for the commercial sector or streamyx internet connection sized communities to aggregate the cost.
